Join us at Kaleidoscope Night this April as we gather together some of Ireland’s finest musicians to offer you a wonderful evening of music in the intimate surroundings of the Odessa Club, Dublin.
To begin, we welcome Martin Johnson, principal cellist of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, to Kaleidoscope to play the full ‘Suite No.2 for Solo Cello in D Minor BWV 1008′ by J.S. Bach. Following this, soprano Deirdre Moynihan and guitarist Alec O’Leary will bring a Spanish flavour to the evening, performing a selection of intriguing songs from the collection ‘Canciones Españolas Antiguas’, compiled by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca.
After the interval, Ireland’s foremost New Music ensemble, Crash Ensemble, will perform a sneak preview of “Free State 7”, their forthcoming concert of up-and-coming composers taking place at the National Concert Hall on 5th April. Martin Johnson will then return to the stage with harpist of the RTE National Symphony of Ireland Andreja Malir, performing the captivating ‘Sonata No.1 for Cello and Harp’ by the Indian composer Ravi Shankar. To end the night, soprano Michelle Sheridan will be joined by Kaleidoscope co-curator, violinist Cliodhna Ryan, double bassist Malachy Robinson and a quartet comprised of some of Ireland’s finest string players to perform a selection of folksongs arranged by Benjamin Britten and John Tavener’s ecstatic ‘Song of the Angel’.
