Odessa College is a public, two-year college based in Odessa, serving the people of Ector County and the Permian Basin. Mini-buses called “marshrutka” in Ukrainian language and are the main source of transportation in the city, as they cover a lot more ground than the system of public transportation. They are all private and nowadays most of them cost 5.00 UAH (0.15 EUR, Jan 2018), you pay the money to the driver when you exit the the minibus. There is also no schedule for minibuses and they also do not stop only on the marked stops. Basically, you can ask to stop a minibus anywhere, provided it is not illegal to stop in that area, by waving your hand in front of the driver. You can also exit by saying where you need for the minibus to stop. Thus it requires some knowledge of Ukrainian. Other passengers will usually help you. You may try to find the suitable minibus, tram or trolley on the [22] (also available in English). If you know the name of your street in Cyrillic and can use Google Translate, you may just manage that. Google maps is also a good option for routes search.
Feeling like we’d like to ease ourselves into the weekend with a touch of virtuousness – we both went for the veggie options on the menu – a spinach roulade with salad for me, and a sweet potato and goat’s cheese salad for himself. Sad to say, our good intentions didn’t pay off, neither main was great shakes – the components in both of our dishes just didn’t come together very well and we left feeling a little sorry for ourselves, wishing we’d either gone for the more indulgent options on the menu or eaten elsewhere. After sampling their evening menu and finding it a very hit-and-miss affair, I think it’s safe to say that I’d only return to Odessa in the afternoon for their more reliable brunch offerings.

Odessa is an interesting city, with such a colorful history. It continues to grow every day, what with an ever-increasing number of establishments cropping up in every corner of the city. It is also home to three colleges, which means that many out-of-state students are constantly drawn to the city’s charms and decide to stay there to find jobs or settle down. They never regret it, though, considering the excitement that the city offers around every corner.
You know how people think they know Odessa just because they’ve heard enough of the city’s folklore? It’s not all that different with life insurance. Just because you’ve heard about term, whole, universal, and variable policies doesn’t mean you know which one is right for your household and family planning. Fortunately, our Odessa life insurance agents have plenty of experience understanding the individual concerns of local families and their life insurance decisions.
For the dinner we had to trundle back downstairs to the restaurant, where we had the whole main level to ourselves. For a starter I had the poached pear with goats cheese and cured ham.  It was nice enough, but the pear was a tad overpowering and there could have been more goats cheese.  For a main I went for the fillet steak with green beans and mash. This was flipping lovely, the highlight of the whole meal. The steak was cooked perfectly medium as requested. Yum – I’m getting hungry thinking about it. And for dessert I had the Christmas pudding, which was very nice too.  The floor staff were running around serving us as quick as they could, they really put in 100% as far as I could see.
Hi TitoMorientes, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Our apologies that the eggs weren’t up to standard on your most recent visit here, we promise they’ll be up to scratch during your next brunch at Odessa! Kind Regards, Bríd Restaurant Manager
Made of red bricks and standing two stories high, the White-Pool House isn’t white at all, but it is the oldest structure in Odessa, Texas. It is one of the city’s most prized historical landmarks since it was built in 1887 on a small knoll in the southern area of the city. The house was named after its original homeowners, Chris and Lucy White. In 1923, it was purchased by Oso Pool, who turned the house into an apartment building during the population boom, spawned by the oil industry. The house changed hands between the two families until it was finally given to Ector County for historical preservation.

Had a Christmas lunch here last week with 40 people. Overall, very disappointed with the experience. Quite expensive at €41.95 per head but we said we would give it a try. One of the tables of 13 people were not served dessert much to our…More

Firstly, we did get there on the early side, but the place is not really well marked and we all wandered into the bar next door before finding the actual place which was a little awkward. Then the staff were somewhat brusque and unfriendly when we actually got in – which, given the hungover nature of most of the crew, did not go over particularly well.

The predecessor o Odessa, a smaa Tatar dounset, wis foondit bi Hacı I Giray, the Khan o Crimea in 1440. Efter a period o Lithuanie control, it passed intae the domain o the Ottoman Sultan in 1529 an remained in Ottoman haunds till the Ottoman Empire’s defeat in the Russo-Turkis War o 1792. The ceety o Odessa wis foondit bi a decree o the Empress Catherine the Great in 1794. Frae 1819 tae 1858 Odessa wis a free port. Durin the Soviet period it wis the maist important port o tred in the Soviet Union an a Soviet naval base. On 1 Januar 2000 the Quarantine Pier o Odessa tred sea port wis declared a free port an free economic zone for a term o 25 years.
Great meal here last night with my friend. We started with crab cakes and the caprese salad which we shared. Unusual touches really made the salad which had mixed leaf and orange segments which brought it up a peg, and the crab was served with a spicy Marie Rose sauce which i was particularly taken with.
Odessa is essentially the principal city of Ector County. It has a large population, around 160,000. In 2014, Forbes Magazine called it the third fastest-growing city in the entire United States of America. Like many cities in Texas, Odessa was founded early, in 1881, as a water stop and cattle shipping point on the Texas and Pacific Railway. The city has seen its fair share of fortune and woe, and has several historic sites to prove it. One of its most intriguing attractions, though, is the Presidential Archives and Leadership Library located at 4919 East University Blvd.
We both went for the French Onion soup for starters and it was a really well-flavoured soup, savoury with a touch of sweetness from the onions and a nice acidity from the balsamic, it was adorned with the typical gruyere-topped crouton, which added a lovely richness to it. We both loved it and were very much looking forward to our mains at this stage.
A ceety wis offeecially foondit in 1794 as a Roushie naval fortress on the ruins o Khadjibey an wis renamed Odessa bi Januar 1795 (when its new name wis first mentioned in offeecial correspondence). Neither origin o the new name nor reasons for renamin ar kent, tho etymologies an anecdotes aboond. Accordin tae ane o the stories, when someane suggestit Odessos as a name for the new Roushie port, Catherine II said that aw names in the Sooth o the Empire wur already ‘masculine,’ an didna want yet anither ane, sae she decidit tae chynge it tae mair ‘feminine’ Odessa. This anecdote is hichtlie dubious, acause thare wur at least twa ceeties (Eupatoria an Theodosia) which names soond ‘feminine’ for a Roushie; besides, the Czarina wis no a native Roushie speaker, an finally, aw ceeties ar feminine in Greek (as well as in Latin). Anither legend derives the name ‘Odessa’ frae the wird-play: in French (which wis then the leid spoken at the Roushie court), ‘plenty o watter’ is assez d’eau; if said backwards, it soonds seemilar tae that o the Greek colony’s name (an watter-relatit pun maks perfect sense, acause Odessa, tho situatit next tae the huge body o watter, haes limitit fresh watter supply). Onyhou, a link wi the name o the ancient Greek colony persists, sae thare might be some truth in the oral tradeetion.
The writer Isaac Babel wis born in the ceety, which haes an aa produced several famous muisicians, includin the violinists Nathan Milstein, Mischa Elman an David Oistrakh, an the pianists Benno Moiseiwitsch, Sviatoslav Richter an Emil Gilels. The chess player Efim Geller wis born in the ceety. (Aw leetit, except for Richter, ar representatives o the ceety’s Jewish community.)
The property crime rate in Odessa was 3,342 offenses per 100,000 residents, also above the U.S. average of 2,451 incidents per 100,000 residents. Within the city, 437 vehicles were stolen in 2016, FBI data shows, a rate of 354.6 incidents per 100,000 residents. The national average is 236 incidents per 100,000 people.

Odessa has the semiarid climate typical of West Texas. Summers are hot and sunny, while winters are mild and dry. Most rainfall occurs in late spring and summer; snowfall is rare. The area exhibits a large diurnal temperature range and frequent high winds.[11]

With the opening of the Penn Field in 1929, and the Cowden Field in 1930, oil became a major draw for new residents. In 1925, the population was just 750; by 1929, it had risen to 5,000. For the rest of the twentieth century the city’s population and economy grew rapidly during each of a succession of oil booms (roughly in the 1930s–50s, 1970s and 2010s), often with accompanying contractions during the succeeding busts (particularly in the 1960s and 1980s).[8]
