Opera House, . Go to the opera house for $20 or less. You can get very good tickets for only 100 UAH (€10) *don’t buy the cheaper ones because of restricted visibility). Odesa opera was called “the best opera in the world” by Ferdinand Fellner, and it’s definitely a must see in Odessa. edit

Went on a pigsback voucher with my friend. Everything was going great, food was lovely, staff very attentive. We had paid the overspend and left a tip and walked out saying thanks and goodbye. The wai…tress then proceeded to run out after us and said we didn’t pay. We were horrified and embarrassed, we told the waitress the money and a tip was on the table and she just said “oh sorry”. Surely the first place you’d check to make sure someone paid was the table??? I’ve never in my life had that happen to me. Won’t be back. See More
Odessa’s main enclosed shopping mall is Music City Mall, which includes Dillards, JC Penney, Sears, Burlington Coat Factory, an indoor ice skating rink, and a television station. Construction of new retail in recent years has been concentrated on the city’s northeast side. In November 2007, the city approved a contract with a company that develops armaments for US Army helicopters to begin operations in Odessa.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) began in 1973. UTPB was an upper level and graduate university until the Texas Legislature passed a bill in spring 1991 to allow the university to accept freshmen and sophomores. As of 2006, the university was holding discussions with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission about construction of a new High-Temperature Teaching and Test Reactor which, if successful, would finish licensing and construction around 2012. It would be the first university-based research reactor to be built in the US in roughly a decade, and be one of the few HTGR-type reactors in the world. In January 2006, UTPB’s School of Business was awarded accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). AACSB is generally regarded as the premier accreditation agency for the world’s business schools. According to the university, only 30% of business schools in the United States, and 15% of world business schools, have received AACSB accreditation.
We arrived to be told “the table had snapped/broke”… and was asked to go to the bar while they fixed it. We went to the upstairs bar and bought a drink and 20 mins later we were told that the table could not be fixed and the restaurant was full (basically overbooked). It was 10pm and no where else was serving food. We were assured we would get a call on Monday morning its now Tuesday and no call, not to mention we called Monday evening to be told “oh you were on a voucher” by a very rude member of staff! Long-lasting traditions of wine production in neighbouring Moldova and Crimea make Odesa an excellent place for wine lovers. Must taste: Negro de Purcari, Pino and famous sweet Kagor from Moldova, Massandra Portwine and Muscat from Crimea.
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. While you probably don’t want the conflict of interest that comes from being represented by a family member, friends and loved ones can recommend lawyers who served them well in the past. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you.
Family attorneys deal with personal matters. If you’re getting married, a family lawyer can help you prepare a prenuptial agreement or other family planning paperwork, such as adoption or inheritance documents.
When you build a list of possible candidates, perform a background check on each one. See if you can find information on their history and success record. Once you find a possible lawyer, you should call to arrange a consultation so you can ask your important questions in person.
Odessa’s Presidential Museum and Leadership Library, on the campus of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, is the only facility of its kind in the United States—dedicated to the office of the Presidency, not any particular occupant of the Oval Office. There are also displays about the Presidents of the Republic of Texas. The museum was pushed to fruition by the late State Representative George “Buddy” West of Odessa. The building itself is named for West and his wife, Shirley.

Made of red bricks and standing two stories high, the White-Pool House isn’t white at all, but it is the oldest structure in Odessa, Texas. It is one of the city’s most prized historical landmarks since it was built in 1887 on a small knoll in the southern area of the city. The house was named after its original homeowners, Chris and Lucy White. In 1923, it was purchased by Oso Pool, who turned the house into an apartment building during the population boom, spawned by the oil industry. The house changed hands between the two families until it was finally given to Ector County for historical preservation.
Brunch in Dublin is becoming a religion. People start discussing their weekend plans as early as Wednesday and finding the right place to eat the best meal of the week is now nearly important as the night out that proceeds it. As the city has come out of it’s shell over the last couple of years so have the brunch options. I used to swear by Odessa as my “go to” spot but that is starting to change. It isn’t that Odessa has gone downhill (it is still solid) but more that the standard elsewhere has been on the up…
The book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, by author H. G. Bissinger, and the subsequent movie (Friday Night Lights) are based on the 1988 football season of the Permian High School, one of the two high school football teams in Odessa. Many of the characters mentioned in the book still reside in Odessa (as of January 2007). A TV show, also by the name Friday Night Lights, aired from 2006 to 2011. It is loosely based on the book and movie, but takes place in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas, itself partly based on Odessa.

For more portraits, go to the Chandler Collection. This gallery contains paintings of the presidents and their wives. It was commissioned by Billie Trimble Chandler, a Texan teacher in Japan in the 1970s. She had Ohsawa Shoji paint a portrait of the Presidents and First Ladies based on official portraits from the White House. Aside from the presidential galleries, visitors can also take a trip to the John Ben Shepperd, Jr. Memorabilia Library, which has over 7,500 volumes of old and rare texts. Beside the library, however, is a house that used to belong to George H. W. Bush’s family in the late 1940s.

The news also follows recent announcements that a number of other clubs in the capital face the threat of closing, including Hangar on St Andrew’s Lane and District 8 at the Tivoli Theatre, where developments are already being planned.
The ‘fast food’ on the street is tasty and if you don’t speak Ukrainian or read Cyrillic is much more accessible as you can just point at what it is you want. Menus are usually only in Russian and Ukrainian, but you may try to ask for an English menu for you (ask for “menu anhliiskoiu”). If they don’t have one, either have an idea of what you want before you sit down or be prepared to randomly pick something from the menu. It’s possible that waitresses can also speak basic English, try to ask for recommendations.
Tip: you may try to avoid tram number 5 in the summer, it gets VERY crowded, as it takes all the tourists to and from the beaches, and it goes also through the main city market. It might be a good idea to use this tram in the colder times of the year.
If you’re looking for a nice route in a city center, try go from Greek square through Gavannaya st., then onto Gogol’ street, in the end of which turn right and you will see the “Mother-in-law bridge”. Walk through the bridge and take a stroll along the Prymorskyi boulevard. In the end of the boulevard you’ll see the city hall. Turn right and go up to the Opera House, from where you can get to Derybasivska street. It’s especially beautiful in the evening.
