On August 1st, Kaleidoscope Night is delighted to present another thrilling evening of music in the intimate and beautiful setting of the Odessa Club, Dublin.

The night begins with a performance of the fun and effervescent Handel/Halvorsen “Passacaglia for Violin and Cello” by the exciting duo of Lynda O’Connor (violin) and Ailbhe McDonagh (cello). The Passacaglia is Johan Halvorsen’s dazzling arrangement of a theme originally written for harpsichord by GF Handel. Following this, we welcome one of Ireland’s foremost duos, Deirdre Moynihan (soprano) and Alec O’Leary (guitar) who will present a number of songs by composers such as Pergolesi, Giordani and Caldara from the wonderful Italian collection “Arie Antiche”. To end the first part of the evening, we will be joined by composer Leonie Bluett and her audio and video piece “Rivers of Ripples”. In the composer’s own words the piece is “inspired by the play of ripples, light and colour on water…it is a rather reflective piece, a journey of sorts”.

After the interval, Lynda O’Connor and Ailbhe McDonagh return to the stage with a performance of Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály’s “Duo for violin and cello Op. 7″. This exciting work, written in 1914, is reflective of much of Kodály’s oeuvre, full of colour and texture, with the composer’s profound passion and respect for Hungarian folk music evident throughout. This brings us to the end of the evening and to the folk music of Ireland, as we invite renowned traditional fiddle players Toner Quinn and Malachy Bourke to send us into the night with a lift in our step.

The Odessa Club is offering a special Kaleidoscope deal: a 2 course meal plus ticket to Kaleidoscope for €25. Call 01 670 3080 to book.

Kaleidoscope Night is funded by the Arts Council.
