This June, Kaleidoscope presents another intimate evening of inspiring music brought to you by the finest performers in Ireland and beyond.

We begin the night with an exquisite duo for two violins by Boccherini, performed by Kaleidoscope’s co-curator and violinist Cliodhna Ryan and Katherine Hunka, leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Katherine will then remain on the stage to be joined by renowned accordionist Dermot Dunne, a regular guest at Kaleidoscope. The Hunka & Dunne Duo have thrilled audiences with their interpretation of Bela Bartok’s “Rhapsody No.1” across the country. We thought it was about time Dublin experienced this impassioned rendition. The first half of the evening finishes with “Jump” for cello, voice and electronics by RTE Lyric FM composer in residence Linda Buckley. It will be performed by Kaleidoscope co-curator and cellist Kate Ellis and Linda Buckley.

After the interval, we are delighted to welcome the Jacquin Trio, recent winners of the prestigious St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition . The trio, whose members are Jessie Grimes (clarinet), Zoe Matthews (viola) and Charis Cheung (piano) are sure to capture the audience’s imagination with Robert Schumann’s “Fairy Tale Narrations, Opus 132”.
Cliodhna Ryan, Anita Vedres (violins), Robin Panter (viola) and Kate Ellis(cello) will then take to the stage to play String Quartet No.2 “Company” byPhilip Glass. The work was written in 1983 as incidental music for a dramatization of Samuel Beckett’s prose poem, Company. They will be joined by an actor, who will weave extracts of the text throughout the music. To send you home dancing after a delightful evening, the quartet will invite Dermot Dunne and bassist Malachy Robinson to join them for a performance of “Witty Waltzing in the Style of Johann Strauss” by Sofia Gubaidulina.
