Just a Moment, Please...
Consistency is a key component to making money in business. You have to consistently keep doing what is necessary to be successful day in and day out. This will create long-term positive habits that will help you make money in the long run.
A few weeks ago I wrote a post about how this was the year you had to quit your job. I gave the reasons why. It wasn’t a gung-ho “you have to be an entrepreneur” article. It was more: bad shit is happening in the corporate world and bit by bit you’re going to feel the urge to quit.
The principles that I have followed out of grad school seems to have correspond to the article. At my age as part of the mid-end of the gen X, it seems that reaching the status of millionaire doesn’t reduce the anxiety of how to provide for the family. I still worry about the same things as before, but at perhaps at a different level. I admit getting to the first million was relatively easy with luck and good planning, but I thought I would have been much better off by now. It is also very tough to maintain with a bad economy. Forget about buying the Lamborghini or the large estate, it’s time to hold what you have.
So, what Million Dollar Business Secrets is, is a clear cut learning program that gives you information and tips on how to not simply be an entrepreneur, but to understand the differences between running your own business and actually managing it.
An income goal of five years is not so close that it terrifies you into inaction, but also not so far away that you can conveniently ignore it. Setting a time frame around your goal makes you accountable to it, and that’s the only way to achieve real success in anything you do.
One good thing about government contracts is that you might not need to finance the project with your money; you can serve as the middleman between the government and the company that will do the job and still make your cool one million US dollars or more within a year.
hahaha cool article. I hope to follow some steps with improvement..but i m pretty sure i wont be a half millionaire also by this year…will need around 3 years for savings and income to increase…hopefully my journey in financial field works out.
Probably the ultimate speculative path to $1 million is via buying lottery tickets. While you’re far more likely to be hit by lightning than to win the lottery — National Geographic pegs the odds of winning the $1 million Mega Millions second-prize at 1 in 18.5 million — a small investment in a winning lottery ticket could easily push you over the magical $1 million mark. Of course, nothing is impossible. One Canadian man was both hit by lightning and won $1 million in the lottery.
Ruth Hedges, CEO of CrowdfundingRoadMap, a company that walks clients through the process of preparing for equity-based crowdfunding, advises that you start early. But also, she advises that you study up on the coming changes to the crowdfunding ecosystem.
“Ask more questions, always. Assess whether “the one method” people are telling you is the only way to go, even makes sense for you and your topic or audience. I’ve found more engaged audience members and more sales waiting on the other side of ignoring traditional advice and focusing on key questions about what my audience needs than through re-creating systems that others have used. Ask more questions, always. Does it apply to you? How can you use it without the elements of it that you don’t like? What would utterly surprise your audience at this point? If you’re asking yourself “Should I do webinars or a 10-day challenge to promote my course?”, ask instead, “In a world where webinars/challenges don’t exist, how would I ideally help people and share my product with them?” – Regina Anaejionu
There are six main drivers for creating a strong culture of teamwork – the things that, if done well, have an outsize impact. And the insights are applicable to any team or organization, from five people to 500,000.
Let people know about your brand, give suggestions, solutions and ideas to those you interact with. Interacting on these platforms also gives you the opportunity to reach out to individuals who are seasoned veterans within your niche. Reach out to them, ask questions and comment on their posts, many of them will answer your questions or reply to your comments with useful information.
But not to Dharmesh Shah, co-founder of HubSpot (No. 1,100 on the 2014 Inc. 5000 and a company that recently went public). Dharmesh sees a clear, if slow and difficult, path to becoming a millionaire–or to reaching whatever level of financial success you aspire to.
Create your business model. Your business model must be either high fidelity or high convenience. If it’s high fidelity you will have fewer customers who will pay a lot. You need 100 customers at $10,000 each to make $1 million. If it’s high convenience you will have many customers paying you small amounts. You need 100,000 customers paying you $10 each to make $1 million.
What you need to do is take that item and post it to Craigslist for sale at a price you believe someone would be willing to buy it (that’s not the same as how much you want to sell it for or you think it should be worth).
Get out there. Meet like minded individuals who will help you brand your business, act as your word of mouth and possibly give you a different prospective on your business, which can ultimately help you accelerate on your path to success.
Assuming the wealthy teach these three important lessons to their children, who are only financially successful in about one in five (like all Scots, Russians, and Hungarians in America), then perhaps becoming a millionaire but comes from these lessons and is not dependent on special privileges or advantages. Did you know immigrants are 3-4 times more likely to become millionaires than native-born Americans? How about that immigrants comprise 41% of the student population of Ivy League schools, yet only comprise 11% of the population in the U.S? Moreover, 55% of PhDs awarded in American colleges go to foreign born (Dr. Wulf, President, National Academy of Engineering, 2005) and 60% of the top science students and 65% of the top math students in the U.S. are children of immigrants (Wikipedia). If the average immigrant has fewer connections, less education, less understanding of our culture, and may not even speak the language, but can take the opportunities provided in this country and go from nothing to millions at four times the rate of a native citizen, what is their advantage? Might this be due to the fact that immigrants are twice as likely to be Catholic? The simple lesson to learn from this is likely that finding or working to build a supportive community can’t hurt. Moreover, success starts with a firm ethical foundation. Marva Collins always had her 2nd Grade class (who were often working at a 6th – 7th Grade level by the end of the year regardless of IQ) start the first day by reading Emerson, Shakespeare, and Plato. Accelerated living comes more easily after finding our moral principles.
I listened to this, and watched the video interview in regards to your story. Really liked it man. My story is somewhat similar. As a junior I was one of the highest ranked tennis players in Hawaii, and was on my way to a D1 scholarship, and then maybe some pros… but I decided to take a year off to train… and in that year, totally burned myself out by overtraining and drinking too much caffeine.
I called Bryan Johnson, who started a company called Braintree. You may have never head of Braintree but you’ve heard of their customers. They provide credit card transaction and payment services for companies like OpenTable, Uber, Airbnb, etc.
What do your friends say you’re great at? I love this question. Not only can it be a nice little ego boost — but it can also be incredibly revealing. Examples: Workout routines, relationship advice, great fashion sense, etc.
I remember way back when I was a teenager (1994 to 2000). I was between the age of 15 and 20 during this time. We barely had internet, as the World Wide Web only went up in 1996, and even then, we barely had the easy functionality that your generation has today.
Turning $500 into $1 million may seem like a fantasy, but it’s certainly possible, at least theoretically. Transforming such a small amount into a fortune would likely involve some combination of high risk, time and blind luck. After all, if there was an easy path to $1 million, everyone would take it. However, some basic investment principles can increase your chances for success.
Bryan told me, “When I first started, for each new customer we’d put together an entire package for our credit card processor on why we thought the customer could be trusted and would be a legitimate merchant.” Which leads to…
When you set a 10X goal, you’re required to think very differently about your daily behaviors. You’re required to be more serious in all aspects of your life. You’re required to eliminate limiting thinking and consumptive distractions.
“A lot of bad patterns happen when you go for really long periods without giving people feedback, and it just bottles up,” said Seth Besmertnik, chief executive of Conductor, a search engine optimization company. “They’re so used to not getting any feedback that when they get it, it’s this huge deal. If you get into a rhythm of giving feedback, they get used to it.”
I have always subscribed to paying yourself first, keeping debt under control and living within my means. Fortunately my wife and I have always made pretty good money so it was fairly pain free to be successful. We were so fortunate to not have any breaks in our work history which is a huge factor. For those who need to dip into savings to cover a long period of work outage, it can be devastating. I’m now at retirement age, house is paid for, no debt, million++ in investments…. You don’t know good it feels to be able to sleep good at night knowing that you can deal with anything that comes up.
The other wants to make money because it allows them to make more things. They want to improve their product. They want to extend their line. They want to create another book, another song, another movie. They love what they make and they see making money as a way to do even more of what they love. They dream of building a company that makes the best things possible…and making money is the way to fuel that dream and build that company they love.
Rule #6. Say YES! He started out just connecting merchants with a credit card processor. Then OpenTable asked him to do software development even though he’s never developed software before. He said YES! He got software developers, built a great product, and at least quadrupled his income. His decision to say YES! elevated his business to a whole new level, not just in the services he offered customers but in how they perceived him. Suddenly, word of mouth was spreading and other online companies started using Braintree’s services: Airbnb, Uber, etc. And the VCs started calling because all of their clients were saying Braintree was providing all of their payment services. It’s not that easy for startup online companies to get payment services.
Another practical way for an aspiring entrepreneur to make a million US dollars in one year from the scratch is by securing a government contract. If you are a government contractor and you are able to secure a mouth – watering contract from the government of your country, you can be rest assured that you will count your first million US dollars in a year – especially if it is a contract that you can start and complete within year.
One pointer — have you considered income protection insurance (or whatever the equivalent is in the US (I’m writing from the UK)). A lot of your eggs are in the ‘earning’ basket, rather than the ‘passive’ basket at present, so it may be worth protecting yourself in case the worst happens. (God forbid).
Well, the biggest ‘con’ is that you don’t think that you need to change what you’re doing when it comes to running your business. And the biggest culprits are people who’re already ‘doing OK’ in their chosen field. But hey! Who wants to simply be ‘doing OK?’ After all… If you work for yourself, you want to be set free from those 16, 18, or even 20 hour days, and have the freedom to enjoy your life along the way. Not to mention seeing the profits hit the 6-figure mark…
