SUMMARY:Johanna Divine with Prison Love
DESCRIPTION:Johanna Divine is a writer and musician whose Southern roots – from Tennessee to Texas\, Florida to Louisiana – have inspired a soulful and wide-ranging body of work. Her debut 2010 recording Mile High Rodeo was called "absolutely superb" by BBC's Bob Harris\, and "an instant Americana classic" by Joel Okida. Divine received accolades for her songwriting from Robert Plant and from Michelle Shocked\, who invited Divine to join her 2010-2011 tour. In the same year\, she brought her original musical\, Le Reve de Marionettes\, to the New York International Fringe Festival. Johanna’s 2012 release\, Electric Tide\, produced by Glenn Patscha (Olabelle\, Sheryl Crow) and Dirk Powell (Joan Baez\, Jack White) combines elements of swamp pop\, Americana and roots rock absorbed in her native South\, but the sultry voice – and the open heart behind it – are all her own. www.johannadivine.com Prison Love formed late one night round a campfire in a field just the other side of Dunmore East back in '01. Their passion for bluegrass\, old-time\, gospel and Cajun music has been enjoyed at major roots/bluegrass festivals all across the country\, Europe and in the US. Expect the fast pace and dynamism of El Nino's mandolin\, Will N. Dowd's flat-picking guitar and banjo\, Dancing Pete's squeeze-box\, Beau Braker's fiddle and X-Kon's dog-house bass. Sweet vocal harmonies from Soapy Mahoney and Hurricane Barry complete the line-up. The result is the finest musical-moonshine this side of the Mason/Dixon Line. This is a band that delivers great tunes and fun in equal dosesso get your dancin' rags on\, lick your lips and take a swig of all that's good about traditional American music. "A Night in the Box is "a lively & engrossing mix of Bluegrass and Cajun...the tightness and complex nature of their playing and their singing and harmonies underlies their commitment to\, and affection for these genres...these songs could not be more authentic in feeling and mood if they were being played on a bayou in Louisiana." - Joe Breen\, Irish Times **** "Prison Love trade in high octane bluegrass with just the right tincture of trouser-hitchin' country. Their sizzling songs set the bar high from the get-go."- Siobhan Long\, Irish Times “This seven piece string band come complete with prison uniforms\, washboard and a selection of Bluegrass\, old-timey\, gospel\, Cajun tunes and songs that sound like a fast train a comin'." - Belfast Open House

SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present Red Sail
DESCRIPTION:Red Sail are based in Dublin. Despite the fact that there are only three members\, the sound they create on stage somehow feels much more substantial. Their songs use the simple building blocks of piano\, guitars and vocals to manufacture a sound that engulfs the audience and never fails to gain a reaction from the crowd. The guitar effects and organ sounds that are used manage to combine electronic influences with a more traditional songwriting style to form music that feels new and familiar all at once. Their influences range from bands like Arcade Fire and the National to the more folky Fionn Regan and Laura Marling. Rather than emulating these acts however\, Red Sail try to create music that is genuinely theirs and does not simply follow the template of other artists. Red Sail started performing together in early 2011\, but are already creating a buzz in the Dublin music scene. They have supported local acts such as Storyfold \, Gypsies on the Autobahn and Caruso but also international acts such as Paul Brady. They have played in venues around the country like The Village\, The Helix\, The Academy\, The Workman’s Club\, The Grand Social\, Sweeneys and Metro17. With their Paper Cutouts EP being released on May 17th\, 2012 should prove to be a breakout year for the group. "..I'm genuinely excited by Dublin based three piece 'Red Sail'... Their indie-folk sound is simply gorgeous and reminds me a little of a lo-fi 'Belle & Sebastian'..." - 2 U I Bestow Blog “Their performances are always genuine… will have your spine tingling and your heart aching…” - Textures Blog “A tripod of energy...” - AaronFromWexford

SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present Large Mound & The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock (Folk Set)
DESCRIPTION:A rock group based in Dublin. The Mound have evolved into one of Ireland's best rock bands\, with three (short) full length albums\, extensive gigging experience\, and mounting critical acclaim under their belts. They have a simple musical goal of combining downstroke rock\, metal riffs and smart songwriting. " For anyone who loves riffs and solos\, this is a huge treasure trove. So huge that it will make you want to buy an amp for your air guitar. " - RTE.ie " There is no frills\, no waste\, just meaty\, beaty and infectiously hip-shakingly great rock songs. " - Limerick Independent " The exciting sonic concoction\, grade A guitar riffs\, rifle range drumming\, and a fine sense of mischief..... Large Mound make the kind of joyful noise that inspires kids to form bands. " - Hot Press Magazine ".. one day they will be looked upon as one of the best Irish rock bands of their time. Go Forth and Amplify is a tender and poignant manifestation of the metal dream" - Leagues O'Toole\, Irish Examiner

SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present The Man Whom
DESCRIPTION:The Man Whom is the moniker for Wexford-based singer songwriter\, producer/composer and multi-instrumentalist Ian Doyle. The Greatest Event is his debut Album. With the help of musicians and friends\, Brian Hassett (bass)\, Christian Best (drums)\, Doyle and his band retreated to the seclusion of a house in Kilrane Village and worked intensely to record the majority of the album. The piano parts were …subsequently recorded in the local arts centre. Further contributions to Doyle’s album include polished string arrangements written by composer Peter Fahey and performed by the Mamisa Quartet\, as well as local guitarist Clive Barnes who played peddle steel for the current single Over and Under. For the finishing touches\, Doyle went to Exchequer Studios\, Dublin with producer Brian Crosby and mixing engineer Phil Hayes who shaped and honed the original recordings. The result is an album which is the sum of its parts\, held together by a shoestring and interwoven with the goodwill of creative\, talented friends. Hotpress 4.5/5 Sing Till There’s No Songs Left’ features emotive harmonies\, uplifting brass\, and swagger in spades. ‘Over And Under’ brims with good vibes\, while ‘Leavin This Town’\, with its unsettling melancholy\, is a handsome tune with a lyrical edge that makes it relevant to these forlorn times. The string-tinged and choral ‘Easier To Run’ is almost illegally heart-breaking\, while the restrained ‘Call All The People’ climbs with uncanny power\, with Doyle taking it to higher and higher levels of elation. ‘Puppeteers’ is a long-held favourite of mine and ‘Til It’s Gone’ wraps it all up so you want to start all over again. The Greatest Event has enough charm and inventiveness to fill your head and nourish your soul. Eat it. The Sunday Times **** A slick production with accomplished musicians\, elaborate scores and scrupulous string arrangements. Call all the People has the heartfelt passion of an anthem\, including melodic bursts of melancholia\, while Sing Till There’s No Songs Left\, I know your Face\, and Over and Under\, the current single\, strike all the right chords. News of the World on Sunday **** This debut album from Wexford man Ian Doyle takes the joyousness of Sufjan Stephens and the unusual phrasing of Villagers\, filtering those elements into an eventful listen. The Irish Times*** “New name\, fresh approach\, adventurous songwriter: that’s Wexford’s The Man Whom (aka Ian Doyle) for you. Songs such as I Know Your Face and The Man Who Knew Too Much display Doyle’s nifty craftsman- like process\, while Call All the People and Autopilot highlight a working knowledge of the kind of music and musings that have gained him comparisons to Villagers and Neil Young. Out of the blue\, then – another new\, good Irish singer-songwriter”.

SUMMARY:The Odessa Club Rockumentary presents Stop Making Sense
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of three nights at Hollywood's Pantages Theater in December 1983\, filmmaker Jonathan Demme joined creative forces with cinematographer Jordan Cronenweth and Talking Heads... and miracles occurred. Following a staging concept by singer-guitarist David Byrne\, this euphoric concert film transcends that all-too-limited genre to become the greatest film of its kind. A guaranteed cure for anyone's blues\, it's a celebration of music that never grows old\, fueled by the polyrhythmic pop-funk precision that was a Talking Heads trademark\, and lit from within by the geeky supernova that is David Byrne. The staging--and Demme's filming of it--builds toward an orgasmic release of music\, rising from the bare-stage simplicity of Byrne\, accompanied only by a boom box on "Psycho Killer\," to the ecstatic crescendo of "Burning Down the House\," by which time the Heads and additional personnel have all arrived on stage for a performance that seems channeled from heaven for the purpose of universal uplift. (God bless Demme for avoiding shots of the luckiest audience in '80s pop history; its presence is acknowledged\, but not at the viewer's expense.) With the deliriously eccentric Byrne as ringleader (pausing mid-concert to emerge in his now-legendary oversized suit)\, this circus of musical pleasure defies the futility of reductive description; it begs to be experienced\, felt in the heart\, head\, and bones\, and held there the way we hold on to cherished memories. On those three nights in December 1983\, Talking Heads gave love\, life\, and joy in generous amounts that years cannot erode\, and Demme captured this act of creative goodwill on film with minimalist artistic perfection. Stop Making Sense is an invitation to pleasure that will never wear out its welcome.

SUMMARY:The Odessa Club Rockumentary presents LoudQuietLoud
DESCRIPTION:The band that inspired some of the most innovative rock acts of the new millennium reunites to conquer the globe 12 years after calling it quits\, and filmmaker Steven Cantor is there to capture all the low-lights and highlights of their tentative reunion in a probing documentary exploring the re-birth of Gen-X alternative giants the Pixies. Plagued by personal problems from the beginning but driven to create such classic albums as Surfer Rosa and Doolittle\, Frank Black\, Kim Deal\, Joey Santiago\, and David Lovering smashed convention to deliver a wailing wall of chaotic but catchy riffs that\, when combined with Black's disjointed lyrics and volatile vocals\, gave birth to an entirely new sound. Initially self-destructing in 1993 and fragmenting into a variety of compelling offshoots\, the Pixies weathered out the remainder of the decade and the first years of the new millennial crossover on their own before a series of jam sessions between the former bandmates led to a wildly successful 2004 North American tour.

SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present The Hot Sprockets
DESCRIPTION:The Hot Sprockets hail from the delta blues mecca that is\, South Dublin. They are five friends who came together with a shared love of Rock N’ Roll music…The kind of Rock N’ Roll music that is haunted by the ghost of country and blues… Having won the King Kong club and de-camping to Serra Vista studios to record their debut album “Honey Skippin’” with Boz Boorer (Morrisey\, The Polecates) at the helm\, The Hot Sprockets have taken the music scene by the balls. A phenomenal live band\, the past two years have seen these smart blues-rockers play over 200 gigs including support slots with The Zutons\, The View\, Divine Comedy\, Ida Maria\, Peter Hook\, Republic of Loose\, BP Fallon and a rake of festivals including Indie-Pendence\, Castlepalooza\, Sea Sessions\, Vantastival\, Arthurs Day & Electric Picnic. Their music has been used on everything from Bulmers ad campaigns to BBC’s comedy “Fresh” and various RTE programmes. They have also had appearances on RTE\, Tv3\, TG4\, 2FM\, FM104\, 98FM\, Spin 1038\, Nova\, RTE Radio 1\, Newstalk\, Phantom fm and many more. The bands video for “Cruisin’” was recently nominated for “Best video” & “Best group” at the Irish Music Television Awards. The Hot Sprockets are living up to their early promise and have delivered a mighty debut album “to be listened to in the spirit in which it was made”. Their kind of Rock N’ Roll music is haunted by the ghost of country and blues – take the good-time revolutionary spirit of MC5\, simmer it down to the sounds of Crosby Stills Nash and Young\, add some rough-edged Eagles of Death Metal and you are somewhere near the sonic nugget that is The Hot Sprockets. “With a pile driving rhythm \, the title track recalls both the Stones Let it bleed-era and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at their demented finest. Honey Skippin’ is a triumph for all involved” - Colm O’ Hare\, Hotpress “I think it's a brilliant single {Honey Skippin’}. They're one of those bands that when ever I come across any of their tunes\, I just presume they're going to be good!” -Dan Hegarty\, 2fm “The Hot Sprockets\, they're one of the vibeyest bands on this planet\, guys with heart and spirit and bunches of rock'n'roll. Brilliant geezers\, they smile a lot and know how to twinkle too. I like them enormously” -BP Fallon “Honey Skippin’ is a really\, really\, really good debut. The sheer exuberance of the record is infectious!” -State Magazine “…great tunes and a fantastic album. 6 out of 6” -musicreviewunsigned.com “Another delight of the year came from The Hot Sprockets. They are a grassy\, dirty rock band and 2011 saw the release of their debut album\, which they launched in The Village with an outrageously rocking gig” - Clare Kane\, Indiesight “{The Hot Sprockets} Some good new-fashioned R’n’R...really laid back\, gravelly\, poppy (!)\, groovy\, and frequently\, arse-kicking-foot-stompin’-tastic. If you don’t have a convertible\, buy one; drive to the USofA and hammer on down Route 66 with the volume turned up to ‘hell yeah!’ ” -Jump! “If you like good aul rock ‘n’ roll\, some blues and some damn fine decent music – then you need to check out The Hot Sprockets live while also purchasing their debut album!” - musicscene.ie http://thehotsprockets.com/

SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present Pugwash
DESCRIPTION:Pugwash are back with us this month with more melodies than you could shake a stick at... "What you get with Pugwash is a rarity: intelligent pop. Their songs have always been crafted with an artisan’s love and invariably reflect a classical structure that has much in common with the B bands (Beatles and Beach Boys). And Walsh’s public adoration of Jeff Lynne and ELO (one of the most underestimated bands of all time) does seep into his melody lines." -Irish Times Sounds good to me!!

SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present Leaders of Men
DESCRIPTION:Whether or not these 5 Dublin lads knew it at the time\, their choice of band name could not have proven more apt in the days to come. Leaders of Men have stepped into the picture with a vital brand ballsy rock n’ roll\, just when eyes weary from watching our countries car crash politics and general eegitry needed something real and impressive to watch and believe in. That might sound a tad dramatic\, but Leaders of Men have certainly given us something to champion over the last few months. Since forming in January 2011 the band have trail blazed their way through the Irish music scene\, taking no prisoners and winning themselves a dedicated fan base along the way. Since kicking it all off with a debut gig last March\, which saw the band bravely headline The Workman’s Club\, Leaders of Men have gone on to headline the renowned Ruby Sessions\, support the likes of Ham Sandwich and Kill It Kid\, and release their debut EP ‘The Debut Collection’. They were also invited to perform at the Philip Lynott Exhibition and made a special appearance on TV3’s Ireland AM Breakfast Show. Not bad for a band that have less than 12 months on their roster! And the pace doesn’t slow there… Most recently we watched the band battle their way through the Guinness Arthur’s Play on the Day Competition. Having won their regional heats on September 7th in Whelans\, fending off fierce competition from the cream of the East Irish crop\, the band continued onto the grand final which took place on September 16th at the Roisin Dubh. Once again\, the band found themselves up against the countries best new bands\, namely Limerick’s Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters\, Donegal’s Mojo Gogo and Cork’s Zombie Computer\, but the Leaders prevailed and bagged themselves the coveted title. This victory saw the band grace the cover of the Hotpress Magazine\, perform at the Guinness Store House on Arthur’s Day alongside Stereophonics and Paulo Nutini\, and take home a hefty prize of brand spanking new music gear that would cause Slash to see green. This Thursday\, they'll wow the little cotton socks off you upstairs in Odessa Club. SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present Miss-Elayneous
DESCRIPTION:There is a fast-emerging scene in Ireland of homegrown rap and hip-hop which brings a distinctively Irish flavour in the form of beats and rhymes to a largely American-dominated genre of music. Having recently supported Alabama 3 in their latest gig in the Button factory\, Miss-Elayneous is on a fast-road to success. She mixes bodhran rhythms with beat-boxing creating something new and individual to bring to the scene. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more from this self-proclaimed poet. SUMMARY:The Odessa Sessions proudly present Elevens
DESCRIPTION:Acoustic based band\, ELEVENS was formed by singer Martin McCann and guitarist Tony Barrett from two of Dublin's most prestigious Indie bands\, SACK and BRILLIANT TREES. It wasn't long before a second guitarist\, Mark Healy (THE JOSEPHS / JERRY FISH & THE MUDBUG CLUB) joined forces to add some tonal colour by adding ebow and assorted guitar pedal trickery to complete the overall sound. In todays climate of the harsh and abrasive\, ELEVENS soothe the senses with their simple arrangements and unique delivery welcoming guests on occasion from Ken Rice on Violin to the more recent brush beats of Tony Brereton (SACK) and double bass player Simon Farrell.

SUMMARY:Movie Club: Like Water for Chocolate
DESCRIPTION:Screening preceeded by an introduction by a representative from the Mexican Embassy. Many have tried but only one film has succeeded. Bringing the Latin-American literary tradition of magic realism to the screen defeated better-known directors; but in this Mexican film\, the stylised design and naturalistic performances combine beautifully with the content. Traditional Mexican dishes are evoked with authenticity. Thwarted in love\, Tita becomes the cook for her extended family. Into her cooking she pours her grief\, tenderness and joy. Food and its preparation are an extended metaphor – from the time that Tita is born in a flood of tears (which evaporate to leave a sack of salt for cooking)\, to when her cooking for a wedding feast causes everyone to leap joyously for the nearest bed with the nearest partner. Magical indeed.

SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope: A Night of Music
DESCRIPTION:This March\, Kaleidoscope Night is delighted to present an exceptional evening of exciting and inspiring music. The night will begin with H.I.F. Biber’s compelling Mystery Sonata X "Crucifixion"\, a work that has intrigued listeners for the last three centuries. It will be performed by the acclaimed duo\, Maya Homburger (Baroque Violin) and Barry Guy (Double Bass). Following this we will hear “Sondas” by Niall Vallely\, a piece written for Kaleidoscope co-curator and cellist Kate Ellis. The piece is influenced by Eastern European traditions and Vallely says that in the music he has “played with the interaction of the sounds of the pre-recorded cellos and the live instrument.” After this\, award-winning Irish composer and violinist Andrew Hamilton will perform his piece “Product No.1”. To begin the second part of the evening\, the former principal cellist of Irish Chamber Orchestra\, Juliet Welchman\, and current principal bassist of the Irish Chamber Orchestra\, Malachy Robinson\, will play the exquisite\, yet rarely performed Duo for Cello and Double Bass in D Major by G.A Rossini. Maya Homburger and Barry Guy will then return to the stage to play one of Barry’s own compositions “Tales of Enchantment”. This will be followed by a performance of Wayne Siegel’s “42nd Street Rondo” by two of Ireland’s leading percussionists\, Steve Kelly and James Dunne. This time\, it will be the audience who bring the evening to a close\, as we invite you to perform Steve Reich’s “Clapping Music”\, led by Steve and James. SUMMARY:Ann Scott
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of three stunning and original albums Ann Scott has been steadily establishing herself as one of the more adventurous songwriters on the scene. Her debut album Poor Horse was voted into the Hotpress musicians' poll of Ireland's top 100 albums\, while follow ups\, We're Smiling and Flo have received hearty critical acclaim and a growing number of converts. Presiding over a range of left-field guitars\, vintage synths and jangly percussion\, Scott sings in a cracked alto with 'dreamlike\, enigmatic lyrics\, deadpan delivery and odd phrasing'- Evening Herald. Recently named among The Ticket's top fifty Irish acts right now\, a live review from The Irish Times\, describes her performance as 'a beguiling snapshot of a musician in thrall to her music but not her ego.' ‘Slow burning\, ambient\, blissfully tuneful and just a little bit strange."Tony Clayton Lea - The Ticket.’ "Not one of the highly hyped songwriters but definitely one of the most talented" —Dan Hegarty - 2FM For more information see http://www.annscott.net/

SUMMARY:The Lost Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Some say The Lost Brothers sound like a ragged Everly Brothers. Others say they sound like The Lost Brothers. It is said that The Lost Brothers formed four years ago in the summer heat of Liverpool. It is also said that The Lost Brothers wrote a book of songs that autumn\, and in the dead of winter they recorded the songs in an attic in Portland\, Oregon. We know that The Lost Brothers released these songs on their debut album (Trails of the Lonely) to a heap of praise from the likes of NME\,The Irish Times\, Word magazine\, Hot Press\, and their fans (Losties). Through the following year\, The Lost Brothers have been spotted in person\, performing at Glastonbury\, Electric Picnic\, Texas (SXSW)\, New York\, Portland\, Toronto\, Paris\, and a hop\, skip and jump across the land of the UK and their beloved Ireland. In their journeys they have toured and played along with many\, including Richard Hawley\, M Ward\, Jolie Holland\, The Handsome Family\, The Swell Season\,Sam Amidan\, Micah P Hinson\, Richmond Fontaine\, Brendan Benson\, Jimmy Webb\, Justine Townes Earle\, Mountain Man among others. They have also performed on RTE’s Other Voices\,France 24\, and on the BBC Culture Show. This year the band travelled to Nashville where they worked on new songs with Brendan Benson as producer. Some of Old Crow Medicine Show and the Cardinals lent a hand in the studio. Later in 2012 this album will be released on Brendan Benson's record label- Readymade Records. While in Nashville the brothers also caught the ear of the Barbara Orbison’s office where they recorded a song for the 75th Roy Orbison anniversary album. In June 2011 The Lost Brothers shared the bill with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison at the London Feis. This year the Lost Brothers opened the Electric Picnic on the main stage. The band have travelled to the US in October last year where they performed at Other Voices New York alongside Martha Wainright\,Roddy Doyle and many others. Over 12 days in 2010 The Lost Brothers recorded their second album in Sheffield with producer Colin Elliot with some of Richard Hawleys band lending a hand in the studio. This album is entitled "So Long John Fante" and is now available on Bird Dog Recordings. It is the second studio album release from the Lost Brothers and it was released in Ireland in November 2011. It has received rave reviews from the Irish Times\, Hot Press\, the Irish Examiner among many others. Details of the UK release for So long John Fante will be announced soon. January and February 2012 will see the brothers tour Ireland as part of the prestigious Certain Three Tour after their very successful performance on The Late Late Show. For more info\, photos\, videos and news see http://thelostbrothersband.com/

SUMMARY:Pugwash
DESCRIPTION:Pugwash is the stage name for Thomas Walsh\, a gifted singer-songwriter from Dublin. He is joined in the band by a regular set of collaborators including Keith Farrell\, Aidan O'Grady\, John Boyle and Stephen Farrell. Thomas has been making music since the mid-90s. However\, it wasn't until 1999 that he really announced himself on the scene with the relase of the 'Almond Tea' album on Vélo Records. He has since gone on to release four further albums - 'Almanac' [2002]\, 'Jollity' [2005]\, 'Eleven Modern Antiquities' [2008] and 'The Olympus Sound' [2011]. He is widely regarded of one of the mosted gifted songwriters of his generation. His work is often compared to the likes of The Beatles\, The Beach Boys\, XTC and The Kinks. While Walsh is quick to distance himself from such comparisons\, they are not without foundation. In 2009\, Walsh teamed up with Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy to form The Duckworth Lewis Method. The duo was brought together by their mutual love of the sport of cricket. The name they adopted\, The Duckworth Lewis Method\, is a reference to a mathematical way to calculate the target score for the team batting second in a one-day cricket match interrupted by weather or other circumstances. The pair released a self-titled album in July 2009. Also in 2009\, the band penned a five year deal with Ape House Records. This gave rise to the release of 'Giddy'\, which was a compilation of tracks from Pugwash's first four albums. Walsh then set to work on recording the material which would become 'The Olympus Sound'\, released August 2011

SUMMARY:Movie Club: Central Station
DESCRIPTION:This month’s movie club presentation is Central Station (director Walter Salles\, 1998). In poverty-stricken Brazil\, Isadora\, a former schoolteacher\, now ekes out a living writing letters for illiterates at a desk in the station. But Isadora’s heart has been hardened by near-destitution; she callously jettisons half the letters she pens\, to keep the postage money for herself. When a small boy asks her to write a letter to the father he has never met\, Isadora at first sees another chance to turn a con – but against all her best instincts\, she becomes his reluctant guide on his quixotic journey to seek a man who doesn’t want to know him. Reminiscent of The Grapes of Wrath\, one of the most beautiful hymns to a beloved country on its knees ever made – a must-see on the big screen. The movie club is free in and all are welcome. Bring your hankies for this one.

DESCRIPTION:Following their packed set at Electric Picnic & touring with the accalimed Portland band Richmond Fontaine\, the Gandhis return with a new single - "Hunting" - from the forthcoming album "After Autumn" which is pencilled in for release in early 2012 by acclaimed independent Irish music label 1969 Records\, home of the Duckworth Lewis Method\, Pugwash\, Dave Couse\, The Pale\, Lir\, Q\, & Niall Colfer. Reflective of a much more mature sound and possessing a newfound songwriting confidence since the release of their debut "You Are My Friend" back in 2009\, the band have evolved up to a whole new level of musicianship while working extensively with the acclaimed producer & Krecording impresario Andy Knightley and legendary Dublin guitar bad-ass Conor Brady (The Blades\, The Commitments\, Jerry Fish\, The Corrs\, The Partisans\, amongst many others). After developing their own unique style of pop quirkiness\, epitomized in their self-released debut single 'Zaza'\, The Gandhis were signed to 1969 Records. The fruit of this labour was to culminate in 2009's debut album "You Are My Friend" launched to a packed Whelans followed by a handful of high-profile RTÉ appearances (Arena\, Saturday Night with Miriam O’Callaghan\, The Cafe). "Hunting" will be available as a free digital download through all usual channels and through the band's website.

SUMMARY:THE NEW FREE Christmas single launch
DESCRIPTION:This beautiful song is penned by Eoghan McNeill and is the first official Christmas release from The New Free on the 1st of Dec 2011. Recorded at the famous Grouse Lodge Studios\, it has a subtle waltz tempo\, coupled with lonely church warmth\, powerful chamber harmonies and echoes of promises made with the best of intentions. Check out the video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmW93aD2JT4&feature=feedu Noelle’s Burden is currently available on iTunes and is doing well! Jackie Hayden from Hot Press writes about their current single “Too Many Drugs”… “Too many drugs is a delightful mélange of hippy vibes\, Celtic rock\, punk attitude and infectious hooks. It has a restless percussive drive that takes over where The Pale left off\, an accordion and a bouzouki high on something\, and Eoghan McNeill's frenzied vocals. "You Shook Me All Night Long" is a crafty marriage of the AC/DC classic and Shane MacGowan’s "Rainy night in Soho". MAGIC!!!” 2FMs Dave Fanning and Dan Hegarty played the single for the guts of week following its pre-release\, and shortly after\, the band were invited to record 4 tracks in RTE for the famous “2fm live sessions”. The New Free recently played The Green Village festival with Ryan Sheridan\, Bipolar Empire and The Stunning to name a few. The band are presently recording their debut album at Grouse Lodge Studios set for release in the Spring of 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmW93aD2JT4 www.breakingtunes.com/thenewfree Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-New-Free/198439520198562

SUMMARY:Michael Brunnock
DESCRIPTION:Michael Brunnock possesses an extraordinary voice\, and his songs mine the profound. So it’s not surprising that David Byrne cast him to sing the role of an Irish musician on the brink of success whose voice guides Sean Penn through an emotional journey of self-discovery in This Must Be the Place (2012). The score by Byrne with lyrics by Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy) called for a distinctive vocalist\, which Brunnock is. see trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zppYSFPKrQ8 Brunnock’s sense of himself and his roots is deeply evident on The Orchard (2012 Araglin Records) A collection of gorgeously crafted songs that embrace a breadth of vision. Featuring guest performances from Glen Hansard (Swell Season)\, Julia Stone\, Ari Hest and Joe Sumner\, the album is Brunnock’s third since Live in New York (2009) and So I Do (2007). Mixed by triple Grammy winner Patrick Dillett\, The Orchard is due for release in February 2012. His exquisite rendering of Down by the Araglin pays homage to the grandfather (also named Michael Brunnock) whose singing of this and other local ballads captivated those gathered around the fire in the family’s kitchen. The younger Brunnock has learned his craft well\, deftly weaving fine lyric with powerful melody in a song like Man Overboard in which an emigrant’s material success is contrasted with the treasure left behind. In Untouchable\, with Glen Hansard on guest vocals\, Brunnock asks what it means to be a man\, a warrior\, a father; to live free in the modern world: Am I man enough to taste flesh burned to the bone? Gameboy hero\, as I kill from a drone. Powerful melodies and angelic harmonies are driven by a strong personal vision on Song of the Lark\, Every Step and Soft\, White and Indigo. Brunnock’s remarkable voice shines throughout\, drawing the listener in with an authentic vision and Irish soul. Brunnock established his solo career when he relocated to New York City a decade ago\, having performed through the 90s in Ireland with the bands Little Palace and The Van Winkles as well as with Dead Can Dance’s Brendan Perry. Since then he has toured extensively in the States\, opening for the Frames and The Swell Season on recent sold out American tours\, and has appeared on TV shows such as FOX 5's ‘Fearless Music'. See www.youtube.com/michaelbrunnockmusic for music "Acoustic\, folk\, and Irish are all words that have been used to describe Michael’s music and while not necessarily wrong\, they hardly scratch the surface." GiantStep.net “I am so envious of people who can write like that” — Roddie Cleere\, The Irish Music Show\, WLRFM “[He has] an absolutely gorgeous quality to [his] voice. It's beautiful. It's really soft and gentle but it rips your heart apart. I have to say it's gorgeous.” — Edwina Grace\, The Edwina Grace Show\, KCLR ". . .A truthful and a heart-filled soul. You know he means it when he sings." — Suzanne Connolly\, The Irish Emigrant

SUMMARY:Chelsea Crowell
DESCRIPTION:Chelsea Crowell\, a third generation songwriter and singer\, reared in both Nashville\, Tn and New York City has just completed her second solo record\, making three total including her band Jane Only's record. She has been featured on NPR's radio program\, All Things Considered as well as a filmed live performance for a PBS documentary about southern roots music. She has Played to audiences of 7\,000 as well as seven and Ms. Crowell seems to glide between the two worlds with ease. Crowell's first solo record was named top ten of the year by the Nashville Scene as well as featured in the L.A. Times as one of three up and coming talents out of Nashville. Her ability to acclimate to any situation\, yet silence a crowd with a nod of the head suggests she comes by her talents both by hard work and bloodlines. She can ride a horse but grew up listening to the Misfits. Introspective\, heartfelt\, humorous and humble\, Crowell forges her own cross over sound. Spending her early music years shying away from the daunting familial shadows\, it is as she has completed her second solo record that cannot be disputed as genuine\, conceptual\, authentic and at times heart torn\, it seems the shadows have parted as she has proven her own ability. Crowell starts what will be a year ahead of touring\, beginning in Europe at the end of October. Her innate ability to stay out on the road with passion can most definitely be chalked up to her formative years raised by two successful musicians as parents\, Rosanne Cash and Rodney Crowell. Throw in the bloodline leading back to her grandfather Johnny\, seems Crowell never had a choice\, the testimony is in the music she makes and performs. Chelsea Crowell; "A child to country music’s most dynastic family; grand daughter to Johnny Cash\, daughter to Rosanne Cash and Rodney Crowell... But she struggles with her astounding pedigree\, in fact at times it can become a beguiled subject“I’m not good with the Cash name\, at all...I avoid it”. She can only go so far from the blood coursing through her veins. Her talent and ability harkens back to the legends that came before her. Chelsea’s music is a mixture of country\, folk\, heartache and time travel. Her haunting lyrics capture a nuanced sorrow beyond her years."ON THE RUN "She's a singular singer/poet. The album is special." - Jim Warren of No Depression Magazine "taut songwriting and gorgeous arrangements” suggested a cross between Lee Hazelwood and Loaded-era Velvet Underground." - The Examiner "Chelsea Crowell is also a work of vivid lyricism\, daring presentations\, and a focused artistic vision refusing to be hemmed in by genre or heritage in the search for full expression." - The Bluegrass Special "There’s something very appealing about an artist who actually has a little bit of self doubt in this world of overly confident pop stars." -Loretta Magazine "Reluctant to get in the "family business" for fear "people would pull the nepotism card\," Crowell went for it because the way she feels when she writes "feels like nothing else\," she says. "Nothing matters more than that." Pausing\, her dark hair and deep eyes favoring the Cash genes\, she defines her music's reality." -L.A. Times

SUMMARY:Ana Egge & Mike Ferrio
DESCRIPTION:Doors 4pm / Concert 5 -7pm €15 (€13 reserved on www.musiclee.ie) “Ana’s an exceptional songwriter\, listen to the lyrics…the folk Nina Simone!” - LUCINDA WILLIAMS “Ana has the rare gift of being so eloquent and simple that she takes your breath away. I just love her.” - SHAWN COLVIN Ana has one of the prettiest voices I’ve ever heard and her songs are beautiful and refreshingly original.” - RON SEXSMITH Ana Egge is set to release Bad Blood via Ammal Records on August 23rd. The 12-song set was produced by Steve Earle and recorded atLevon Helm Studios in Woodstock\, NY. Bad Blood was mixed and mastered by Ray Kennedy (Earle and Kennedy’s production partnership includes the Grammy winning Lucinda Williams album Car Wheels On A Gravel Road\, the Ron Sexsmith favorite Blue Boy\, and many more). Steve Earle stated\, “Ana Egge’s songs are low and lonesome\, big square-stare noir ballads which she plays on a guitar she built with her own two hands and sings like she’s telling us her deepest\, darkest secrets.” Link to download album here: http://rcpt.yousendit.com/1110246793/151f509a2403bf880f12dd1fda28b9bd With support and backing from: Mike Ferrio (Good Luck Mountain) www.259records.com Hushed and haunting\, the self-titled debut by Good Luck Mountain is as breathtaking as the expansive landscape captured on its cover. A new incarnation of the sadly unappreciated Americana band Tandy\, the group changed its name after the passing of one of its key members\, Drew Glackin who plit his time between Tandy and the Silos. That sense of sadness is manifest in the eloquent and emotional “Heaven in the Haze” and a softly spoken “The Perfect Circle\,” two tracks that find singer/mainstay Mike Ferrio offering heartfelt laments that practically challenge the tear ducts to stay dry. Parched vocals and a subtle weave of violin\, viola\, harp and trumpets enhance the sobering sound\, and indeed\, there’s not a song here that doesn’t make a lasting impression even when the volume knob demands it be turned to a higher register. Rarely is an album as affecting\, and indeed\, in terms of casting its spell\, Good Luck Mountain has already scaled a most magnificent peak.

Sadhbh grew up in Naas\, Co Kildare and spent most of her teenage years playing guitar and bass in various bands. Having finished school\, she obtained a place at Ballyfermot Rock School where she began to sing and perform her own compositions. This gave her the opportunity to take part in an exchange program in The Netherlands\, so in September 2008 she moved to Tilburg and formed a band with a group of Dutch musicians. They rehearsed together for a few months\, playing shows in a number of venues around the area. In 2009 Sadhbh returned to Ireland\, determined to establish herself on the Irish music scene. She recruited some new musicians including 2 fellow Ballyfermot graduates; bassist Eoin Hartwieg and drummer Patrick Hopkins\, and jazz guitarist Mark Dudley. In the year that followed they became a regular fixture in Dublin’s live venues. They also secured themselves a slot at the Temple House Festival in Sligo\, opened for a number of renowned acts including Kila and Gemma Hayes\, made a few radio appearances and had a track featured on “Brand New Day”; a compilation album in aid of Suicide or Survive. Having spent 2010 hard at work on the live circuit\, Sadhbh and her band have steadily begun to build themselves a fan base. Her vocals and songwriting style have been described as “pure and authentic”\, while the band’s live performances have been referred to as “prog rock without the ego”. 2011 so far has seen Sadhbh return to The Netherlands for a tour and begin work on her debut album\, which will be released in the autumn. “Sadhbh has assembled a resolute bunch of musicians who play her songs in an intricate\, compelling fashion. Combine these with the multi-instrumentalism of the talented Ms O’Sullivan\, and you have what is going to be one hell of a show.” – Leinster Leader www.breakingtunes.com/sivemusic www.facebook.com/siveband

SUMMARY:Screening of 'No Distance Left to Run'
DESCRIPTION:‘No Distance Left to Run’ is a sentimental journey through Blur’s beginnings\, success\, disillusionment\, re-invention\, arguments\, break-ups and the emotional reunion and gigs of summer 2009. This documentary is fantastically shot\, with intertwined footage from the band’s 1990′s Brit- pop haze. The interviews with the band\, although not altogether open and revealing\, do illustrate somewhat the band’s dynamics and demons they each faced. Blur have always been a band which defined and re-defined the 1990s and early 2000s. This documentary is a superb representation of their chameleon-type talent: a band who were not afraid to take risks. The film illustrates Blur as an utterly original band who will be remembered in many years to come\, as one of the most influential bands to come out of England of the last thirty years.

SUMMARY:The Pale
DESCRIPTION:Formed in Dublin in 1990\,The Pale began with a unique and unusual style recording a mini album called “Why Go Bald?” which grabbed the attention of both the public and record companies alike. They soon signed on the dotted line with A&M Records and in 1992 The Pale released an award winning debut album (Hot Press awards 1992; Best Single award for Butterfly and Best Album Production) called “Here’s one we made earlier”. Three singles from this debut soon followed (“Dogs With No Tails”\, “Butterfly” and “Shut Up Venus”) launching the band on an international trek which took them the length and breadth of the UK\, mainland Europe\, Scandinavia and as far afield as Japan and the USA taking in many festivals including Glastonbury and Transmusicales. 1994 saw the band depart from the world of major record companies to pursue a more independent path by creating their own label. The vehicle of Gudenfast Records was to carry the hopes of the band for the next three albums\, Cheapside (1996)\, Cripplegate (1997) and Spudgun (1998)\, which was enough for the band to see out the remainder of the twentieth century. Lead Singer Matthew Devereux released a solo record called “Tap Tap Tap”(2003) on the highly respected dance label Psychonavigation Records. In typical Pale fashion this album was in the improbable genre of experimental electronica. Normal service resumed for The Pale when they released “Lonely Space Age”(2004) followed by a comprehensive tour schedule. So it was with a newfound determination that The Pale launched into a new stage of their career releasing The Final Garden EP on Devereux Records in 2005\, which gave a hint of the musical and lyrical torrent to come. The Pale found a new home with the excellent Irish independent label “1969 Records”. They have so far released two well-respected albums on this label “The Contents Of A Shipwreck”(2007) and “Proper Order”(2009). These albums saw The Pale grow into a more mature an even more interesting proposition. In place of their former quirkiness\, the band have cultivated an elegant new sound offering irrefutable proof that sometimes musicians are at their most articulate in their autumn years. The Pale’s music has always remained accessible with natural pop tendencies\, but some hilarious terms have been coined along the way in a vain effort to describe an elusive sound that is more esoteric than most of their contemporaries. “Polk” (a fusion of punk and folk)\, “zoukibilly” (rockabilly with bouzoukis) and “punkranian” are just a few of the phrases conjured up by some of the more inventive journalists. “Tom Waits at a Bar Mitzvah”\, quipped one enthusiastic scribe\, while another equally inventive journalist likened the experience of a Pale gig to that of seeing “a Ukrainian wedding band on acid”. Over the last twenty years\, The Pale have also had the pleasure of supporting some very eclectic acts most notably The Frames\, Antony and the Johnson’s and The Beautiful South. The band have also worked with many different musicians who have added some interesting ingredients to the Pale sound\, while the mainstay of the group has remained Matthew Devereux (Vocals)\, Shane Wearen (Mandolin) and Darren Flynn (Bass). Indeed\, if necessity is the mother of invention\, then The Pale have always found it necessary to think outside the box. In an effort to satiate their broad musical leanings The Pale has used many different traditional instruments. Mandolin\, bouzouki\, Turkish oud\, banjo\, viola and sitar have all made an appearance on Pale recordings\, but not always played in the “traditional” way. The songs are literate\, lyrical and passionate. You will certainly remember the sound of The Pale\, once you hear it. www.myspace.com/thepaleie
